泡末夢幻—牙彫根付髑髏に蛙

張り付いているのは肌では無くて頭蓋骨に直接触るこの冷たい生き物は、夢を見ていると思っていたのはもうすでに骨と化した私だけ。露に濡れて土の上に転がっている私にカエルがとまっている。

蝦蟇の置物が奉納されているのは「無事帰る」の語呂合わせだと言われているが、蝦蟇（蛙）の形が頭蓋骨に似ているからではないかと考えている。

無銘か現代作家にもかかわらず最高傑作のスケルトンを彫りこんだ牙彫根付。河鍋暁斎の野晒し髑髏画に代表される和の髑髏。カエルが髑髏に乗せた珍しいデザイン。手で握れる細工の彫刻美術品。細部まで手抜かりなく作り込まれた、気品溢れ、愛嬌のある見事な意匠を完成させている。長年を使うことによって、色の変化を楽しめる逸品。

洗練された彫りで、表現もすごく豊かだ、見る人に衝撃を与える大変素晴らしい作品。この作品を手にしたら、もう他者の髑髏作品には一切興味が無くなってしまう程の強烈な魅力がある。

明治に入り、人体骨格を学んだ彫刻家旭玉山が発表した「牙彫髑髏」が高く評価されるや、職人らは蜥蜴や蛇など小動物に荒らされた精巧な野晒しの置物を制作、欧米人に大層好まれた。この作品は、リアルさの追求というより、珍しく意匠化した蛙の表現などの洗練されたデザインが特徴である。

根付は江戸時代から印籠や煙草入れ、小物袋等を帯から吊るす際に用いられた留め具。実用性のみならず美術品として高い評価を得ている。日本の細工牙彫根付が海外にも大人気、オークションで吃驚仰天の何千万円で落札されたことが度々ある。

The Japanese word frog and Safety are homophonic (kaeru), and usually frogs are mascots that represent beauty. In this whimsical idea, the frog represented by the mascot is placed on the skull that symbolizes death, implying that all things are impermanent, and the prosperous must decline. The Diamond Sutra says: “All conditioned dharmas are like dreams and bubbles, like dew and electricity, and should be viewed as such.” have the same meaning. A hundred years of life is fleeting. Fame and wealth are like fleeting clouds, dreams and illusions, and immortality is nothing but an urn.
