夜宴や外出時に化粧品をほぼ全て収める優美な魅力と技巧が融合する時を超えた美しさを湛えるこのミノディエールは、まさに優雅なエスプリの真髄にあるフェミニニティに捧げるオマージュ。僅か擦れが見受けられるにもかかわらず、年代を考慮すると大変コンディション良いレトロ風ではなく本物で入手困難な美品。
大手オークションで滅多に出ない類似作品は大体繊細な子猫図柄、ハンマープライス(hammer price)が状態次第4000～6000ユーロぐらい。可愛いが可愛いが、レリーフは今一し、また何か栄養不足痩せすぎだなと個人的な感覚。
本作は珍しいタイプの大柄ペルシャ猫図柄で重量感もだっぷり。高肉彫のため猫よりまるで性感かつ豊満なる貴婦人のように見える。贅沢尽くしルビー６個を象嵌し、猫の両目は特に称賛に値する。
尻毛まで一本一本細部彫りの見事な超細密毛彫に驚くべき、勢いのある太い美しい肉厚彫刻を打出し、耳と尾の一部が四角形ケースから外に出る巧妙なデザインと、生き生きとしたヒゲや毛並み、そして素晴らしい姿。全体的にバランスが絶妙で表情も良く品位の高い傑作。
内部には綺麗なヴェルメール(金塗装）され、鏡で仕切られた更に引き込み式で三方構造。一方蓋付きのコンパート２つ、もう一方鏡の中に象牙製ダンスカードと紅板、最後の一方仕掛紙幣挟みが設定。留め具もしっかり、カッチリと開閉できる。
ミノディエール（仏minaudière）は20世紀以後誕生された新しいフランス語で、掌サイズの化粧品などを入れるパーティー用ミニバッグの意味だ。従来ヴァン クリーフ&アーペル（Van Cleef & Arpels）の創業者アルフレッド（Alfred Van Cleef）の妻、パリ宝石商の娘エステル（Estelle Arpels）が1920年代頃に名付けと因んでいた噂があるが、実際に本当の発明者はドイツのクッペンハイム氏（Louis KUPPENHEIM）なのた。
クッペンハイム氏は1854年ドイツで金銀手工芸品の専門会社を設立され、1900年パリ万国博覧会で出品したレターオープナーで金メダルを獲得により、同年同社はパリにて支店を開設した。パリ支店起業当初、エロティックなエナメル細工のシガレットホルダー、マッチケースを主な商品として巨額利益を獲得しつつ、間もなく専ら意匠を凝らして金銀細工宝飾品を主力となる大人気を博した。
それらの金銀細工装身具の中で、一番得意なのはレリーフのミニケースだった。特に猫図柄の小型化粧箱は当時からも超大な人気で様々なヴァリエーションがある。非常に魅力的な雰囲気を持ち好評のすえ、それから猫図柄のミニケースのみを作成に至るまで西欧諸国の人々を魅了していた。

皆様ご存知の通り、1910年代大戦の狭間中、独仏両国は両陣営に二分した敵同士の関係で、金銀細工師特に宝石商が商いを維持するために、わざと貴金属マークは付かないことがごく普通だった。
V&A美術館（victoria and albert museum）に確認したところ、太い猫図柄のタイプは子猫図柄と違い、ケース外側に凹みがあるながら発売当初にペンシルが付属無しと返事を下さった。また、開閉も1920年代以後発売されたスプリング式ではなく、伝統的な鋼板製スライド式鎖の形なのだ。

CONDITION: excellent condition with no damage. hinge firm, excellent closure, very little used( no removable pen). Ecompromised.
A magnificent antique German solid silver gilt Minaudière embellished with a chased silver cat in deep relief on the front of the case as I have described, with the back of the cat on the back cover. The cat is inset with precious jewels with ruby eyes, The Minaudière has two cabochon rubies inset into the push clasps. opening to reveal a a mirror and series of compartments, each secured by a cabochon ruby, suspended from a silver link chain.
The interior has two compartments in the front cover and a single compartment in the back with a mirror on one side of the hinged lid and ivory dance card and writing tablet on the other and a hinged card holder inside.
French export silver mark, fitted case by Paris. after 1879. ABOUT LOUIS KUPPENHEIM
Company grounded in 1854 by Louis Kuppenheim (1824-1989) and Heinrich Witzemann, specialized in silver and gold and -enameled artefacts. On the World Exhibition in 1900 the firm received a gold medal for a letter opener. In that same year the company opened a branch in the Rue Richelieu 67 in Paris. In these years some designs by Hans Christiansen were executed, amongst them very delicately enameled silver cigarette cases.
The enamels on the several silver and gold pieces was of very high standard, and sometimes even gems like rubys were applied. Very famous were the ladies silver vanity cases with cute animals like cats and monkyes that are regularly sold on the better auctions and are very wanted.
