京都某大学教授旧藏，一眼望去，第一印象这只是个普通鹿角雕手把件的人想必大有人在。没错，这就是江户初期普通百姓的实用根付。雕刻绝对谈不上细致，但古老的包浆散发出浓厚的人间烟火气息才是其珍贵之处。毕竟世间“有钱人”占据极少数，大多数人要为生计奔波，做不到不食人间烟火。
虽然说一分钱一分货，但所谓“好的根付”绝非价格越高越好，实用，结实，有人味的根付才是好根付。就像这件看似普通的大路货，实际上1970年代在日本已经很难买到，近年更是难上加难。传统流逝不是某个国家的专利，是快餐时代的悲哀。
牙雕技艺手工承传，造型特点与艺人审美观念关系密切。民国以前，牙雕制作属于个人或小作坊行为，作品做由市场决定。其时象牙雕刻品以文玩为主，讲究可观可玩，最重把玩性。无论人物、动物造型都以团状为主，无尖锐突起，不宜把玩的部位，行话称肉肉头头、圆圆乎乎。
鹿分驯鹿、马鹿、驼鹿等多种，不是所有鹿角切割之后都会流血。麋鹿角是生物质，割开基本都会流血，而梅花鹿是骨质，随着年龄增大角内血越来越少直至完全没有。简而言之，但凡年代久远的鹿角制品，都会有或多或少的裂和脏垢。

Very good photogenic composition.
The cow bows its head to the ground, and the boy plays on its back, which is very interesting. The composition is simple and elegant, the knife technique is sharp, the conception is unique, and the patina is bright and smooth. It is one of the masterpieces of the Kyoto School.
