无落款,但附有正守本人原创俳句两首,因此认定为正守作品。正守设计的根付忠实传统,非常注重细节和原创。题材取自日本和中国传统—安静的人物或动物,结构精致细腻,雕工熟练出色,就像此件作品,虎眼采用镶嵌形式。

描述

上田令吉《根付之研究》P210著录正守:“以牙雕著称,中期(天明至宽政)人也”。长久以来被公认为为顶级雕刻师,晚年依然保持巧手妙雕,作风扎实。正守才华横溢,所作俳句委婉优雅,书法精美,文笔俱佳。

有著录的世界最大的牙雕虎根付。大英博物馆和卢浮宫的藏品只有4cm,都只能称之为“虎”,只有这只堪称“大虎”。

日本四面环海,自古没有虎这种生物存在,丰臣秀吉侵略朝鲜,特地命令加藤清正务必弄回来两只虎,死活不论。加藤清正还真拖回来两只死虎,“清正公朝鲜打虎”直到现在都是语文教科书必读,相当于日本版的武松打虎,人尽皆知。

16世纪末开始,日本画家开始尝试画虎,用了将近100年才勉强成功。中国俗话画虎不成反类犬,看似简单的事情往往最难。虎如果没有虎威和虎气,看起来不是像猫就是像狗,总之不像虎。中国明清版画偶尔有虎,犯的毛病也一样。20世纪后西洋写实主义盛行,画虎总算不像猫和狗,但看起来太假,还是没有虎气和虎威。有兴趣的可以看看麝香虎骨膏的广告,直到现在还是一眼假。

18世纪初,京都派雕刻虎成功,从此成为专利。20世纪初开始,木雕和牙雕的日本虎根付成为欧美博物馆的镇馆之宝,尤其是牙雕,几乎是日本根付或“日本微型象牙雕刻艺术品”的代名词。自古没有虎的日本,以虎的题材著名世界,这事很讽刺。

目前不知道牙雕虎根付为何很难超过5cm,推测和象牙直径有关。总之可以很负责的表态,有著录的牙雕虎根付,这是世界之最。就算不论个头,单论虎威和虎气,也完美的,毫无争议的超越了以收藏根付著名的大英博物馆,卢浮宫,犹太博物馆(维也纳),洛杉矶美术馆,波斯顿美术馆(根付数量世界第一)。

19世纪后期的雕刻艺术不堪入目,年代越晚越卡通化,万兽之王的神韵和风采丧失殆尽。眼的镶嵌开始投机取巧,早期用海松,晚期用琥珀,中看不中用。自以为是的“细密雕刻”使根付变成脆弱娇贵的摆件,毫无实用性,完全丧失压坠的功能。

Unsigned,However, it comes with two haiku poems written by MASAMORI himself.

Masamori is Very faithful to old netsuke tradition in feeling. Great attention to detail; original, amusing designs. subjects taken from Japanese and Chinese life—tranquil, quiet figures or animals. Delicate, detailed composition; skillful and beautiful use of color. Look this carved ivory netsuke is in the form of a tiger with inlaid eyes.
