描述
鹿角雕根付中鬼斧神工，巧夺天工之极品，蛤蟆仙人是早期根付常见题材，但铁拐李和蛤蟆的题材极为罕见。
类似题材在中国至迟五代十国期间刘海戏金蟾已家喻户晓。另一方面，根据京都知恩寺蔵宋末元初颜辉『蝦蟇鉄拐图』推测，14世纪以前蛤蟆铁拐李仙人的组合在中国亦广泛传播。以明兆临摹的「蝦蟇鉄拐図」（がまてっかいず）看来，日本几乎在同时代（室町前期）已出现同样题材。
鹿角制品把玩后都会有黑斑出现，因为鹿角实际上就是颅骨的突起物，外面包裹皮肤，内部也有血管通入，后期皮肤脱落，只剩下骨化角。鹿角切割时有血流出，黑点就是血干后留下的痕迹，把玩过程中脏污进入鹿角缝隙，形成黑斑。
