描述
翻看MCI（大英博物馆根付档案卡索引），意外发现蛇比龙少，出乎意料。刻龙难在繁复，所以价格昂贵。但龙起码有四种姿势，而蛇只有两种，物以稀为贵的角度看来，蛇价格贵不过龙，但数量要少于龙。
龙蛇之所以昂贵，题材罕见数量稀少固然是主因，更重要的是绳孔极难设计，龙厚，尚且可想方设法打洞。蛇薄，只能利用自然空隙，因此刻蛇难度大于龙。
关于古山，上田令吉氏《根付研究》P354记：“牙雕木刻俱佳，江户中后期人也。尤擅浅浮雕，云龙花卉山水雕刻细密”。

The Japanese ivory netsuke depicting a coiled snake squeezing between the coils. Powerful and of great quality with very fine details. The snake with open jaws and the tongue out make this netsuke a work of great effect and that strikes us immediately.
