描述
狮子滚绣球是中国常见传统吉祥图案之一,寓意消灾驱邪、赶走一切灾难,源于南北朝时代民间活动舞狮。由于外貌威严,在中国古代被视为法权的象征。佛教中狮子又称“凤犬”,是文殊菩萨乘坐的神兽,由此更加奠定了狮子在传统文化中镇宅辟邪之地位。
后世民间舞狮时逐渐增加了舐毛、擦脚、搔痒、洗耳、朝拜、翻滚等动作,变凶猛为可爱,狮子就成了既能镇宅辟邪,又能送祥瑞的瑞兽。因此民间俗言:“狮子滚绣球,好事在后头”,也即好运即将来临。
古代日本熊以外无猛兽存在,因此狮子通常被称为“唐狮”,也即中国狮。此件为典型江户初期京都派毛雕佳作,唐狮后腿着地,俯身靠在球上,用前爪紧紧抓住。凶狠的面容、眼神和牙齿以及长而尖的鬃毛雕刻逼真。包浆深浅不一,触感如丝般柔滑。造型精美大气,状态完好。

This is an Early 18th century Netsuke depicting a Shishi trying to climb over a huge smooth ball,Seated on its hind legs and leaning over a large smooth ball which he clutches with its forepaws, the face with a fierce expression and an open mouth. The eye pupils of black horn.
with a fierce look, and menacing teeth. The mane of long and pointed hair strands, the bushy tail held straight up, and engraved sunbursts suggesting hair tufts. Variably patinated, in some areas darker than others. Silky smooth to the touch. Wonderful large uneven himotoshi, common of netsuke from the Early Edo period of Japan.
